My Name Is Taylor Le — This Is Why I Joined Aha!

by Why I Joined Aha!

I love learning about the origins of language and how it shapes communities. Reading the works of people from all different backgrounds provides unlimited perspectives. In college, I took every type of literature, writing, linguistics, grammar, and editing course that I possibly could.

I quickly discovered that, even more than my own independent writing, I enjoyed working closely with others to help perfect their unique message.

After college, I joined the marketing team at a global edtech company serving customers in more than 125 countries. I crafted all types of content — landing page copy, blog posts, email campaigns, as well as ads and video scripts — for several of the company’s products. From SEO to HTML, I dug in with non-stop research. I enjoyed working on all these different areas of product marketing and collaborating with cross-functional teams to make it happen.

I became managing editor for three of the company’s blogs and managed a sizable team of freelance writers and editors. I took on more content work, building out customized style guides for multiple products. Although I enjoyed the broad marketing exposure, I wanted to narrow in on one area where I could become a true specialist.

I most enjoyed my time spent editing copy to improve our users’ experience with our brands.

Reviewing content for accuracy, readability, and brand voice are skills I picked up on the job. However, the tools and techniques used by editors to identify and correct errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and usage require more in-depth training. So I got to work pursuing a copy editing certificate from UC San Diego.

Once I earned my certificate, I wanted to find a more specialized position. In my job hunt, I came across a familiar company — Aha! I had previously researched Aha! as a solution for balancing planning and work flows. I was thrilled to find a copy editing role at a successful SaaS company.

The job posting felt like it was written just for me. After reading more about the Aha! culture and values, I stopped what I was doing and applied immediately.

(After proofreading my application roughly two dozen times, that is.)

My interview process moved quickly and every interaction led me to feel I was in the right place. Each person was enthusiastic about not only their own work but the work the company was doing as a whole. A strong emphasis was placed on helping each other grow as a team. Moreover, each person I spoke with was openly thrilled at the prospect of bringing a copy editor on board.

Since joining I’ve found that everyone on the Aha! team shares my drive for being the best at what they do.

This makes it a perfect environment to build upon each other’s strengths to create content and user experiences that go above and beyond. The team’s hard work and dedication allows Aha! customers to be their very best as well.

From product landing pages to support articles and UI copy, I get to use my writing and editing skills to improve our users’ experiences with our company at every touchpoint. Here I find myself with an endless supply of brilliant individuals to work with and content to perfect.

That is why I joined Aha! — and why you should too.
