Have you ever spent way too long piecing together a puzzle of Excel printouts? I know I have. Aside from the paper cuts, it was especially annoying because I spent a significant amount of time creating the perfect detailed view. But because of the scope of the plan, it ended up spilling over several pages and printing in sections. And if I tried the “fit to page” option, you needed a microscope to read it. Ouch.
This is why we make it easy to create custom roadmap views in Aha! Communicating the right information to the right audience is a huge part of every product manager’s job. You can add your roadmaps and reports to an Aha! Notebook or save nearly any view as an image or PDF.
Previously, you could choose between portrait and landscape format in Aha! when generating PDFs. This was helpful for printing (and solved the problems above) but sometimes created awkward page breaks when viewing the PDFs on a screen.
You want your roadmaps to look their best regardless of whether you need to print them or view them digitally. Now, you can generate PDFs in Aha! with new print options and better resolution.
When you choose the PDF viewing option, Aha! now automatically optimizes the resolution. You can also scroll and zoom in to view the details. For those times when you need a hard copy, the new print settings let you choose the best paper size and orientation.
Here is a deeper look at how you can benefit from this update:
Save any view as a PDF
You could already save any view in Aha! as a PDF. In this example, the portfolio roadmap shows how individual product plans roll up to company initiatives — the perfect way to communicate quarterly progress.
You can save any view in Aha! as a PDF using the “Export” menu.
Print your roadmap on a single page
Simply choose your paper size and let Aha! handle the formatting for you. New options include A3, A4, A5, legal, letter, or tabloid — so it might be time to upgrade the printer.
When you select a new paper size and update your PDF, Aha! automatically reformats to fit.
Choose between print or digital views
You can communicate a large amount of information in a single PDF. When optimized for viewing digitally on your screen, you can zoom in and scroll across the entire timeline to take in the details. For example, this roadmap shown below includes all of the features that were shipped in 2017 — as well as those that are planned for 2018.
If you are not planning to print your roadmap, select “Optimize for Viewing” to generate the highest-quality export.
No one wants to spend time formatting PDFs or taping together print-outs.
Whether you need to print a portfolio roadmap or share details of upcoming features, you can now generate better PDFs to effectively communicate your roadmap plans.
