Managing releases is complex work. Especially when you have a lot of cross-team dependencies. If something you are relying on falls behind schedule, your entire plan can be derailed. This is frustrating. But it is downright destructive when no one thinks to inform you.
So, how do you ensure that your launch comes together as planned? Aha! helps with this in two ways — mapping dependencies and automatic notifications. Today we take these concepts a step further and combine them.
You can now receive automatic notifications on changes to dependencies — helping you stay informed about the work that impacts your product plans in real time.
We cannot make dependencies go away entirely. For most teams, they exist and are vexing. But we can (and did) make it easier for you to monitor and track them.
For example, when your feature is linked to another record and marked as “depends on,” “is impacted by,” or “is blocked by,” you will be instantly notified when the status of the linked record changes. This way, you can adjust your plans accordingly and move forward with confidence.
Here is how to start using the new dependency notifications:
Set dependencies on records
You can already link records across Aha! to show how work is related. For example, if your next release depends on a new UI design, set a dependency between the two. You can even set dependencies across products if you need to.
Click on the record link to open up a drawer view and see the details.
Get automatic updates on changes
You want to know what will impact your roadmap. Now, you can select to receive notifications when changes are made to specific types of linked records. You just need to update your notification preferences in your personal settings. Once you do, you will receive email or web notifications for changes or status updates made to dependent records.
To enable the new dependency notification, go to Settings > Personal > Notifications.
Now you can spend more time moving your product forward and less time worrying about complex dependencies that will send your plans sideways.
So, the next time someone else’s work has been delayed and will impact what you have planned — you will instantly know.
